Kelp Forests of the World

Combined geographic data backing the "Forgotten Forests of the Sea" interactive map. A single TopoJSON topology bundling six layers: modelled kelp biome (UNEP-WCMC), OBIS Laminariales occurrence hex bins, GBIF Laminariales occurrence grid, Kelp Watch canopy regions, regional health snapshots, and documented kelp replacement (barren) sites. IMAS Tasmania Giant Kelp — Statewide Canopy Time-Series

Statewide giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) canopy extent around Tasmania mapped from Landsat imagery across survey periods (1987–2015), from the IMAS (University of Tasmania) Tasmanian Giant Kelp Landsat Survey. Each feature is observed canopy presence for a survey period, not a change/loss raster. See methodology section 5.

Higher-resolution giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) canopy presence at intensively surveyed Tasmanian sites, mapped from Landsat imagery (1987–2015), from the IMAS (University of Tasmania) Tasmanian Giant Kelp Landsat Survey.
