With a career in journalism spanning nearly 35 years, Aleksander has established himself as one of Norway’s most prominent photojournalists. His work has earned international acclaim, including awards from World Press Photo and twice being named Norway’s "Photo of the Year".
Aleksander believes that in a polarized world, humanity needs "undeniable evidence" and his philosophy is simple: to be physically present where the moments unfold, and document it. He went into the profession wanting to change the world for the better. He started covering accidents on his bicycle for the local newspaper at age 16, and by 21, he was one of the youngest photographers documenting the war in Sarajevo.
Aleksander is known for his unconventional methods, including pioneering freediving as a journalistic tool to document the ocean he loves. For him, Sunstone is the safe harbor where his decades of experience in the frontlines of the press meet the rigor of science, and where he gets to use everything he has learned.
Aleksander loves paper newspapers and action-packed Korean TV series. He talks constantly, but admits that the most talented to shut him up are his wife and daughters.
