Johann Olav Koss
Board chair & co-founder
Johann Olav is an internationally recognised social entrepreneur, passionate about creating and growing organisations and companies for social good across the globe.
While many remember him as a great Winter Olympian, with four gold medals and eleven world records in speed skating, Johann’s later career has been defined by his work as a leader in the sustainable business and philanthropic sectors. He founded Right To Play, promoting the use of sport and play as tools for positive childhood development, and grew it into a global organisation that reaches millions of children. He co-founded Staer Collective, a global network of individuals and organisations aligning to confront humanity’s greatest challenges, across education, energy, environment, democracy, and conflict.
At Sunstone, he is an active chair working on strategy and finances, who views every team member as a vital part of the whole and believes that the greatest results come when everyone focuses on what they do best. He stopped ice skating, but loves to dance - although mostly in secret. Despite his legendary balance on the ice, Johann claims to be a "terribly bad" dancer.
