Journalist
Lou is an ocean storyteller and marine biologist who bridges the gap between scientific complexity and public wonder.
With a PhD in Marine Biology specialising in the symbiotic relationships of sea anemones, Lou’s background is rooted in both rigorous research and practical conservation; She spent years diving to monitor seabed habitats and marine mammals in marine protected areas. She is the author of Wondrous British Marine Life, a book born from her passion for translating the hidden world of the ocean into engaging narratives. A naturalist at heart, Lou’s journey into the sea began as a competitive swimmer and diver as a child, and recently led her on a three-year sailing voyage from Europe across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.
At Sunstone, she uses her unique dual lens as a scientist and a writer to tell urgent stories about the marine world. When the tide is low, Lou can be found on the beach close to her home in Wales, with her camera and notebook, sitting among and photographing limpets (sea snails), her favourite animal. She is also pretty good at handstands.
