Naushad Ali Husein
Journalist
Naushad loves journalism because, as he puts it, it is a discipline that lets you learn about the world in a deeply nuanced way – one that avoids simple "good guy vs. bad guy" binaries.
Naushad began his career at age 17, learning the ropes from brilliant mentors at the daily New Age, an English-language newspaper in Dhaka, his home city. He took a break from the profession for several years, joining Friendship, an NGO that serves climate-impacted communities across Bangladesh’s riverine and coastal landscapes. Despite finding it enriching to work closely with people in these challenging areas, he soon came back, finding it difficult to stay away from telling the stories he kept discovering. Naushad is presently completing a Master’s in Climate Change and Development, adding to his background in History and South Asian studies. Life in Bangladesh makes the "rigged game" of global capitalism jarringly obvious, he says, a reality that fuels his drive for his work.
He plays in a band. It’s mostly for fun; “with music you don't have to be exceptional, you just have to enjoy it”.
